On his first trip to Latin America since the beginning of his second term, U.S. President Barack Obama spent two days in Mexico, where he met with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to discuss economic cooperation, energy and education, among other topics. On May 2, Obama and Peña Nieto held a press conference at the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City after a bilateral meeting earlier in the afternoon. On May 3, Obama spoke at the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City in front of a crowd of young Mexicans, where he quoted Octavio Paz and briefly addressed the crowd in Spanish. “Es un placer estar entre amigos,” he said. He said that Mexico’s youth were a generation empowered by new technology, financial prosperity and women’s rights, and commended recent judicial and educational reforms in Mexico.
