Asunción-based NGO Centro de Análisis y Difusión de la Economía Paraguaya (CADEP) in March published Paraguay en el Mercosur: Asimetrías Internas y Política Comercial Externa. The report contrasts Paraguay’s domestic economic policies with its efforts to integrate with regional trading partners. With insights for neighboring economies facing similar challenges, the report highlights challenges to integration and political-economic considerations of membership in regional trading blocs.

Entrepreneurship is a crucial factor for economic growth in Latin America, and policymakers have long strived to develop policies that target and support entrepreneurs. With the goal of maximizing the effectiveness of these policies, Mexico City-based NGO Fundación Idea recently published ¿Quiénes son los emprendedores innovadores mexicanos?, a comprehensive report on the sectors that are producing Mexico’s most innovative entrepreneurs. The report also analyzes programs to help entrepreneurs and the numerous challenges to entrepreneurship in Mexico.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC)’s report, Macroeconomic Challenges of Fiscal Decentralization in Latin America in the Aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis, examines the conflict between political and fiscal decentralization and national economic planning. It shows how the economic downturn is raising new challenges for federal policymakers as regional governments sometimes undermine broader efforts to maintain fiscal stability.
