Welcome to AQ Online’s Social Inclusion portal–a multimedia space for dialogue and debate on systemic problems of social exclusion.
Read a post, watch a video, view a slideshow, and then comment on it. Join our bloggers in a discussion on ways to promote inclusion for underserved populations across Latin America and the Caribbean. Follow happenings on this page and become part of an online group dedicated to identifying policies and practices—among businesses, governments and civil society—that can reverse endemic exclusion for indigenous groups, Afro-Latinos, urban and rural poor, and women.
Reducing exclusion expands markets, promotes economic and political stability, and foster economic growth—all things that businesses seek. For this reason, this webportal will connect these voices with business groups to share ideas and experiences on how greater inclusion also translates into new consumers at the base of the pyramid and an expanded labor pool to drive business growth. We will highlight examples such as how corporate social responsibility is a smart business practice and why impact investing (the theme of the Fall 2011 AQ) can be a valuable tool for socially-conscious but profitable ventures. .
So, stay tuned as we examine challenges of social inclusion faced in areas such as political participation, market access, education, representation, justice, education, digital divide, health care, and property rights.
